FCC starts monitoring wifi carriers' execution of expenses impact notifications

Easy-to-use web page will monitor execution of 'bill shock' expenses designed to aware wifi customers of extra fees as they approach strategy limits

Washington, D.C. – The Government Devices Commission payment today released a new 'bill shock' web page (HYPERLINK "http://fcc.us/billshocks"http://fcc.us/billshocks), an online device to help customers monitor execution of latest expenses by wifi providers to provide utilization notifies before and after customers surpass their strategy boundaries. Bill impact is a rapid and surprising increase in monthly wifi bills that happens when customers' unintentionally beyond strategy boundaries for speech, data and textual content. Bill impact can also happen when customers travel overseas and get hit with surprising worldwide wandering costs. A latest FCC study found that 30 million People in america – or one in six wifi users – have experienced expenses impact.


In Oct 2011, Chairman Julius Genachowski HYPERLINK 
"http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DOC-310290A1.pdf" declared a new program that would offer no cost notifies for wifi customers as they strategy per month speech, data and textual content boundaries, and after those boundaries have been overtaken. Chairman Genachowski was registered by CTIA-The Wireless Organization, which records service to roughly 97% of U.S. wifi customers.

FCC Chairman Genachowski said, "Using technological innovation to encourage customers with details has been among the top goals of the Commission payment. Last Oct, we were satisfied that CTIA-The Wireless Organization and Consumers Partnership registered us to declare new expenses to offer no cost notifies to customers before they strategy boundaries and have charges. We also guaranteed an website with details about when providers begin offering these notifies. Today, we produce on that guarantee."

The new website is available at HYPERLINK "http://fcc.us/billshocks" http://fcc.us/billshocks.  The Commission will regularly update the table to reflect each carrier's progress in providing the bill shock alerts, based on information provided by CTIA-The Wireless Association, and in partnership with Consumers Union.
